| SK Education Foundation Announces 2007-2008 Award Recipients |
| September 2007 -- South Kingstown Education Foundation is proud to announce the following grant awards for the September 2007- June 2008 academic year: |
| Most Improved Student Awards. Awards for one high school student per month to be administered by the department heads. ($255) |
| High School Science Fair. Funding for materials and awards to facilitate more high school students to participate in annual SKHS and state science fairs. ($365) |
| Read and Write Project. Materials for emergent readers at Peace Dale Elementary School to take home after first grade in order to maintain and possibly progress in reading abilities during the summer. ($999) |
| Stories That Count Project. Funding to begin to establish a comprehensive math literature library that will serve as a jumping off point for all SK elementary schools’ problem solving lessons in math. ($998.13) |
| Artists Among Us Project. Art supplies for programs for SK third grade student at the Courthouse Center for the Arts. ($500) |
| South Kingstown CARES Books for Kids Project. Funding to purchase books to provide to West Kingston Elementary School Homework Club participant students in order to encourage reading in the home. ($250) |
| Water Quality and Habitat Assessment Project. Funding for twelve pairs of chest waders in connection with the ongoing SKHS science department’s field studies in aquatic habitats. ($660) |
| One for Me . . . One for You Project. Funding for the purchase of books to be used by SKHS Literacy Enhancement students to encourage both their and their families’ reading. ($750) |
| Summer Time Always Reading Project. Materials for emergent readers at Wakefield Elementary School to take home after kindergarten in order to maintain and possibly progress in reading abilities during the summer. ($834) |
| Build-A-Book Residency Program. Partial funding of a larger program to expand the existing program to grades K-2 at Matunuck Elementary School. ($1,000) |
| Calming Corner – Enhanced Sensory Environment. Funding for materials to enhance the process of learning self-regulation for students at the Hazard Inclusion Preschool. ($1,000) |
