Request for Grant Applications
2008/2009 School Year

The South Kingstown Education Foundation (SKEF) soon will be awarding its annual grants for the 2008/2009 school year.  Grants are open to a broad range of innovative projects proposed by teachers, students, administrators, parents, or members of the South Kingstown community, including previous SKEF grant recipients, provided that the proposed grant project meets the Project Criteria listed in the Application and does not exceed $1,000.  

29 grants have been awarded since SKEF’s inception in 2003.  A description of each of these is included on SKEF’s web site linked to the schools’ web site at www.skschools.net or directly at http://fc.skschools.net/skef/.

Part III.  Detailed Project Description

Please attach a separate statement (no more than two pages) detailing your project.  Detailed Project Description should include your project goals and how you intend to achieve them.  Include specific activities, highlighting how they are innovative.  If relevant, describe how these activities will be extended within your school and/or shared with others.  Explain how you intend to evaluate the project.  If any contractors or consultants are expected to be utilized  in connection with the proposed project, or if you expect to team up with another organization in connection with the proposed project, or if another foundation is expected to be funding any portion of the total proposed project, so indicate.  Please feel free to attach any written materials, photos or web site references relating to the proposed project.


Part IV.  Project Budget

Please attach a separate page which includes a line by line statement of the proposed budget for your project.  The budget should indicate the expected income (if any) and expenses associated with the proposed project.  Please use natural expense categories such as supplies, equipment, printing, telephone, postage, etc.  The total budget should equal the “Amount Requested” in Part II.


Part V.  Authorization & Certification

By signing this request, I authorize this Application and certify that all information in this Application is correct to the best of my knowledge.  If this Application is approved, I will, within 30 days of project completion (no later than June 30, 2009) submit to the Education Foundation:   (1) a Financial Report with a full accounting of all actual income and expenditures of such project, and (2) a Self Evaluation of the completed project indicating if the goals were achieved and/or if the project was considered successful.  Both the Financial Report and the Self Evaluation shall be mailed to the Education Foundation at the address noted in this Application.  Additionally, I agree to allow the Education Foundation the right to make public any and all information in the Grant Application, Financial Report and Self Evaluation.

Project Criteria

Proposed projects should be innovative and attempt to further excellence in the South Kingstown public schools, or should help to strengthen the relationship between the South Kingstown public schools and the community at large.  

Proposed projects should initiate efforts not already funded or expected to be funded as part of the South Kingstown annual school budget.  

Proposed projects should not have as their focus the purchase of capital assets such as copy machines, furniture or fixtures.  

Proposed projects should not include expenditures for personal stipends or transportation.

Proposed projects should have a reasonable expectation of success.
