South Kingstown Education Foundation (SKEF) was incorporated in 2003. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The endowment was launched with initial donations of $5,000 from Sue and Ken Kermes and Jim and Janice Prochaska. This $10,000, along with a $25,000 matching grant from the Rhode Island Foundation, enabled SKEF to initiate the establishment of its permanent endowment at the Rhode Island Foundation, the earnings on which are used to fund teacher and community grants each year.
The Foundation raises additional funds for annual grants and larger scale, education related projects in or relating to the South Kingstown Schools.
South Kingstown Education Foundation has no paid staff; it is operated entirely by a volunteer, working board of directors.
