Non-Resident Students

The residence of a student is determined by the provisions of policy #5117.3. Any student whose residence, as determined by the provisions of that policy, is outside the Town of South Kingstown, is a non_resident student.

Enrollment of Non-Resident Students Prohibited

Except as otherwise provided elsewhere in this policy, non-resident students shall not be enrolled nor remain enrolled in any school in the district.

ADMISSION:

Future Residents

A student who is a non_resident but whose custodial parent or legal guardian has signed a contract to buy or build a residence in the school district may be enrolled during the semester in which such student reasonably expects to become a resident of the district.

Former Residents

All regularly enrolled students whose custodial parents or legal guardians have moved out of the school district after the school year has begun may complete only the semester during which they have moved, provided however, that any student who has been continuously enrolled for the first three school years at the high school, may complete his or her final year at the high school.

Hardship Cases

Non-resident students who are living with district residents because of temporary personal or financial hardship of their custodial parents may be enrolled at any time. However, if the students are to remain for more than a six_week period, legal guardianship must be obtained.

Exclusion of Undesirable Students

Nothing in the preceding paragraphs shall constitute a bar to the exclusion of students considered undesirable by reason of character, ability, or previous training.

Transportation

No transportation shall be provided by the district to any non-resident student attending school under the provisions of this policy.

Review of Policy

The superintendent shall review the operation of this policy with the school committee and the administrative staff periodically.
