Substitute teachers shall be paid at a rate determined by the School Committee. In the event a substitute teacher should serve at least three quarters of the number of days that public schools are required by law to be in session, such substitute teacher shall be given credit for a year of service and paid according to the following schedule:

Substitute Salary Schedule

A substitute who has worked l35 days in the current school year shall be placed on the following schedule on the 136th day and for all subsequent days worked in the school year. Credited years of service shall be given for all years of substituting teaching in which the teacher has taught 135 days or more.

Step Daily Rate Plus

·       1 year of substitute service    $ 2.00

·       2 years of substitute service   4.00

·       3 years of substitute service   6.00

·       4 years of substitute service   8.00

·       5 years of substitute service   10.00

·       6 years of substitute service   12.00

·       7 years of substitute service   14.00

·       8 years of substitute service   16.00

·       9 years of substitute service   18.00

·       10 or more years of substitute service  20.00

Substitutes who serve in a single position for ten (10) or more consecutive school days shall be paid $40 per day above the daily rate.  Where it is known in advance that the position will last more than ten (10) consecutive days, the additional rate may be applied immediately.

Where there is a shortage of substitutes in a specific specialty such that the safe and/or effective operation of the educational process is threatened, then the superintendent may assign additional years service credit to the specialty in order to safely and effectively operate the school system.
