The appointment and promotion policy of the South Kingstown School Committee is based on the belief that the most qualified person shall be hired for each position and that consonant with its commitment to non-discrimination and affirmative action all members of the staff shall be notified via posting and via notice to their respective collective bargaining agents of any promotional opening and have the opportunity to apply.
Normally, an ad hoc screening committee appointed by the Superintendent or designee shall review all applications and make recommendations to the Superintendent.
The Superintendent of Schools shall fulfill his or her role as defined in state law by appointing the candidate whom he or she feels is most qualified for the position subject to the consent of the School Committee.
Absent extraordinary circumstances, written notice of openings shall be posted in all schools and administrative offices at least fifteen (15) days or n accordance with the appropriate collective bargaining agreement before the expiration date for applications. All successful applicants must possess at least the minimum certification(s) and other legal qualifications as well as those adopted by the School Committee.
The Superintendent shall forward a written recommendation to the School Committee prior to the meeting at which Superintendent requests the appointment be made.
