It is the policy of the South Kingstown School Department not to discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, or sexual orientation in its employment policies as required by the following state and federal laws and regulations: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, the Age Discrimination Act of 1967, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the State Fair Employment Practices Act as amended (1995).
Harassment by supervisors or co_workers in employment or service delivery on the basis of race, sex, national origin, age, handicap, sexual orientation or any other protected status is an unlawful employment practice prohibited in the South Kingstown School Department. Harassment is defined as verbal or physical conduct interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment. Sexual harassment includes unwanted sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal and physical conduct of a sexual nature. Harassment based on race or national origin includes ethnic or racial slurs and other verbal or physical conduct related to a person's race or national origin.
