South Kingstown Teacher of the Year: Elizabeth Ferguson, who is a language arts teacher at Broad Rock Middle School, has recently been selected as our teacher of the year. Her nominator cited her enthusiasm, inspiration of students, community involvement and her passion for teaching. Dr Hicks noted that “her work extends beyond her classroom walls as she makes her school and district better – her role in bringing student led conferencing to SK being but one example.” In her acceptance of this honor, Ms. Ferguson stated that she was especially honored to the high quality of exception teachers our district and she is proud of the education her three children have received in South Kingstown.

Capital Plan: Capital Plan: The school committee approved a revised capital plan for the district which will protect our buildings, maintain and improve our operational systems and interior environments and protect our educational program spaces. Due to recent statutory changes, the district ability to raise taxes for schools is restricted. Coupled with no increase in state aid for the last two years, the district’s financial situation is challenging. On the positive side, our buildings have been well maintained and repairs have been funded appropriately in the past.
