Parents,

Now that all the H1N1 clinics for the SK schools are completed, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their cooperation and patience.  It certainly helped to make things run more smoothly.  Because of everyone’s efforts, RI had the highest vaccination rate in the schools across the nation.
Free, public clinics for H1N1 vaccine will continue operating at various locations through mid-February.  Vaccines are available to those who are 18 or over.  Individuals do not have to present identification and can attend any clinic, regardless of where they live.  In the next seven days, the following clinics will run:
Feb. 6: The Melrose school (76 Melrose Ave., Jamestown);  8am-12pm
Feb. 6; Chariho High School (455 Switch Rd., Richmond);9am-1pm
Feb. 6; The Job Corps Center (162 Main St., Exeter); 10am-2pm
Feb. 6; Kickermuit Middle School (525 Child St., Warren) 12pm-4pm
Feb. 7; Johnston Senior Center (1291 Hartford Ave., Johnston) 12pm-4pm
Feb. 7; Gaudet Middle School (1113 Aquidneck Ave., Middletown) 10am-2pm
Feb. 9; Barrington High School (220 Lincoln Ave., Barrington) 4pm-8pm
Feb. 9; Portsmouth High School (120 Education Lane, Portsmouth) 4pm-8pm

Parents,

The second round of H1N1 vaccination clinics have been scheduled for those students who were under the age of 10 when they received the first vaccination at their home school.  The dates are as follows:

PeaceDale and Wakefield 1-15-10
Matunuck 1-19-10
West Kingston 1-27-10

Clinics will start at 4pm and each  elementary school will send out information to the parents on the ending time.  This will be determined by the number of students that need the second vaccination.   It will not be necessary to fill out another consent form as we have copies of the original.

Also, there are various clinics being run around the state for adults at CVS, Walmart, Stop and Shop and Rite-Aid stores.  South Count Hospital is running a clinic on Saturday, January 16th from 9-12.  The hospital’s main number is782-8000.  For a list of clinics around the state you can access the Department of Health’s website at www.health.ri.gov, enter your zip code and click on Flu Vaccine Locator.

The following populations can now receive their H1N1vaccine  from their Rhode Islandhealthcare providers:

Children in kindergarten through grade 12 who did not receive their first doses of H1N1 vaccine at their schools
Young adults through the age of 24
Adults through the age of 64 with chronic illnesses

Adults with chronic illnesses include those with chroniclung diseases, cardiovascular diseases, blood disorders, and immunosuppressiondue to disease or medications.

Rhode Islanders through age 24 years of age who attendout-of-state colleges can now pre-register, through December 21, for an H1N1flu vaccination clinic. The clinic will run sometime between December 26, 2009and January 8, 2010.  The RhodeIsland Department of health will announce the exact date, location, and hoursof operation of the clinic in the coming weeks. The Rhode Island Department of Health reminds all RhodeIslanders to practice healthful hygiene when gathering with family and friendsthis holiday season. Individuals can help prevent the spread of H1N1 flu bywashing their hands regularly with soap and warm water or alcohol-based handgels, by coughing or sneezing into their sleeves, and most importantly bystaying home and avoiding social gatherings when ill.
