Syllabus

Language Arts - This curriculum addresses development in reading, writing; speaking, listening and viewing; conventions usage, and grammar; and literature.

Students are expected to read a minimum of 25 books or equivalents each year.

In addition to the expectations for previous grades, sixth grade students will:
·       Read and understand literal, interpretive, and critical meanings
·       Identify and discuss story elements such as characters, settings, problems, solutions and sequences
·       Analyze and interpret literary and informational texts/citing evidence
·       Read and understand the elements of science fictions myths, legends, and autobiographies
·       Utilize the writing process using graphic organizers, rubrics, and checklists
·       Produce a variety of forms of writing which display proper sentence structure, paragraph structure, grammar, usage and mechanics
·       Speak clearlyly and provide relevant information when presenting ideas
·       Listen attentively and provide critical feedback to presenters
·        Practice techniques to engage the audience in writing and speaking
